Filament vs. Resin – Which Is Right for Your Model?

At D&K Custom Prints, we offer two very different types of 3D prints — and knowing the difference helps you get exactly what you want. Whether you’re browsing our detailed miniatures or our fun, articulated toys, here’s how to choose the right print type.

🧪 Resin Printing – For Miniatures, Busts & Collectibles

Resin printing gives you sharp details, smooth surfaces, and crisp edges — ideal for painting and display. This method is used for:

  • Tabletop miniatures (like D&D or Pathfinder characters)
  • Collector busts and statues
  • Fine-detail terrain or diorama elements

Resin is cured layer by layer using UV light, which allows for extremely precise features — but it’s more fragile and not meant for toys or heavy handling.

🧵 Filament Printing – For Toys, Sensory Items & Gifts

Filament printing (FDM) uses melted plastic like PLA to build stronger, flexible models. We use it for colorful, movable, and kid-safe designs, such as:

  • Articulated flexi toys (dragons, cats, dinos, geckos, etc.)
  • Fidget and stimming tools
  • Giftable creatures and sensory-safe items

These prints are made to bend, wiggle, and move — not to be painted or showcase tiny surface detail.
